Brown isn’t the only leader in trouble

Dear readers,
Today your task is to decide which leader is in the biggest mess.  You get a choice of three!
1. Gordon Brown: As we all know, Geoff Hoon, the former Defence Secretary, and Patricia Hewitt, the former Health Secretary, have written to all Labour MPs calling for the leadership issue to be sorted out “once and for all” [...]

Palin has probably robbed McCain of the presidency

Dear Sarah Palin,
I don’t know how you do it.  I really don’t know how you do it.  Everytime I have seen you on TV or read about you in the papers, ever since your speech at the Republican convention, I put my head in my hands.  To this day, I have no idea how anyone [...]

Has time run out for McCain?

The latest Gallup daily tracking poll puts Obama at 50% and Mr McCain at 42%.  The latest CNN poll put Obama ahead by 53% to 45%.
CNN’s poll of debate-watchers last night found 54% said Obama had done the best job, compared with 30% for McCain.  CBS’s poll of undecided voters suggested 39% thought Obama the winner, with [...]

McCain’s call for calm is a complete sham

Dear John McCain,
I know your campaign strategists must have been rubbing their hands with glee as you tried to portray yourself as the American hero last night by suspending your presidental campaign and calling for tomorrow night’s presidential debate to be postponed.  No doubt you were hoping to convince voters that you take the economy [...]

Thought for the day

It sounds strange at first, but it would be a beautiful irony if the voters in the presidential elections in America were heavily influenced by cookies.

McCain is a dirty old man

January 2008: “I’m going to raise the level of political dialog in America,” John McCain said at a campaign rally in central Michigan, “and I’m going to treat my opponents with respect and demand that they treat me with respect.”
April 2008: John McCain called for a presidential campaign that is more like a respectful argument [...]

Thought for the day

Is it really all over for Hillary?  The betting markets don’t think so.

McCain is more dangerous than people realise

Dear John McCain,
The race is on.  At long last you know who your opponent is in the battle for the White House.  For months you have failed to wrestle the spotlight from the Obama-Clinton media circus, but now your chance has come to stamp your authority on the Presidency.  Like both the Democratic candidates, you [...]

“He is not going to wait at the phone like a high-school girl waiting for a date”
- an aide to Barack Obama suggesting that the Democrat hopeful for the White House might declare victory over Hillary Clinton before she formally concedes

Thought for the day

Like many other political geeks, I’m finding it hard to keep track of the performance of each candidate for the US presidency, seeing as the polls and primary results swing back and forth all the time.  I still haven’t decided which party I want to win the next election in America.  Therefore, after many painstaking hours [...]

Sicko success

Dear Hilary Clinton,
I must admit that I didn’t realise you were such a fan of Michael Moore films.  His recent film ‘Sicko’, which I’m looking forward to seeing on its UK release, clearly made an impact on you.  Healthcare is one of the most contentious issues in American politics and in the same way that [...]
