Frozen food is unhealthy

Refreezing food is unsafe
Refreezing food can be done safely if it is thawed in the refrigerator. The benefit of placing food to thaw in the fridge is that it remains cold but still thaws. Keeping it cold prevents bacteria from growing and spreading, meaning if the food is not going to be consumed, it can be frozen again. The only downside is that a second thawing could leave food a little less tasty.

It’s common practise to leave food on the side to thaw, but really it should be thawed in a refrigerator. Room temperature conditions can be unsafe for thawing food as it’s more likely to promote colonies of bacteria growing on the food.
It’s ok to thaw food in hot water
This method of thawing is not consistent and can result in differing temperatures in different parts of the food, causing it to cook unevenly. As this is not safe, it’s best to thaw in cold water and change the water every half an hour.
Food must be thrown away after it has expired
Some people are very sensitive about eating food that has passed its use by date. Best before dates are primarily for shops to rotate stock but use by dates reflect the optimal time for use. If you put food into the freezer on the use by date, it won’t be an issue at all.
