Quote of the day

“a charismatic guy with a Teleprompter”

- how Sarah Palin described Barack Obama during her speech at the National Tea Party Convention in Nashville last weekend.  Unfortunately for Palin, though, it seems that Obama is not the only one who needs a little help remembering his lines as Palin was photographed with crib notes written on the palm of her hand during the very same speech.  A close examination of the former vice-presidential candidate revealed she had the words “Energy”, “Tax,” and “Lift Americans Spirits” scrawled in ink on the inside of her left hand.  “Budget cuts” was written and then crossed out.  She surreptitiously glanced at the words during a question and answer session afterwards when she was asked what should be the top three things a Republican majority in Congress would focus on.

  1. Gordon Brown; a guy with zero charisma and a teleprompter. How did it come to this?

P.S At least Palin’s nails are well groomed.

  2. I wouldn’t want to see Palin’s nails on Gordon Brown, though. He’s disturbing enough as it is!

  3. A handful of prompt words isn’t really comparable to reading an entire speech from a teleprompter though.

  4. True, but blaming someone for relying on prompts when you’re relying on prompts yourself is pretty ridiculous.

That’s like Alistair Campbell accusing other people in politics of being mean to him – I mean, honestly, can you imagine what… oh, hold on a sec….

  5. Her phrase “how’s that hopey-changey thing workin’ out for ya?” will come back to eviscerate, inter alia, Dave once his reforms start to cause a bit of pain. That phrase will be death to anyone who runs on a ‘change’ platform. Anywhere. Ever.

  6. Probably safer than off the cuff

  7. Do collar and cuffs match, BS?

  8. Shaun, I agree entirely…a classic in the making.

Ross, I agree, 6 or 7 words is nothing and I think the point she was making re the teleprompter is that he would be lost without it.

P.S. I find his voice turns me off anyway after a few sentences. Not a black American Blair as I first thought.

  9. You have not told the full reason why she had to write those words on her hand. Was it a last minute thing? When giving briefings on pre-prepared subjects I know well, I still have to have ‘prompt’ words in case I miss anything out. This is just nitpicking. I believe it was also in the anti-Palin HuffingdonPost. God they really are starting on her already arent they? Looks like the left liberal media Obama worshippers in America have their claws out early. As has been said, it is not a whole speech is it?
I cant believe that it is worth bringing up on this blog.

Have you every had to give a speech? 5 or 6 words as an aide memorie is world’s away from reading someone else’s speech off a screen.

  11. Giving a 45-minute speech using only four points is a sign of oratorical skill. Obviously. Turning incoherent if your autocue breaks down is not. Obviously. Pointing out the latter whilst doing the former is not a sign of hypocrisy. You’re scraping the barrel here, and making yourself look stupid in the process.
