Brown’s Copenhagen dream begins to falls apart

Take, for example, the BBC website from Tuesday afternoon:

copenhagen

Sure, they’re talking about the dodgy dossier, Tiger Woods shagging porn stars, Baby P, George Michael and swine flu – but what happened to Copenhagen?  The press release on the high temperatures in the last decade squeezed into the top stories on the right hand side but soon disappeared.  In short, the BBC had no choice other than to bump the Copenhagen summit because it simply wasn’t newsworthy.  Lots of people talking about climate change does not deserve coverage, and the BBC have clearly acknowledged this.  The Guardian fared a little better as they shoehorned Copenhagen onto their home page, although their headline revolved around a huge argument brewing following the leaked draft text of an agreement that screwed over many small countries – and this argument appears far from over judging by the papers this morning.

Yesterday could not have gone any worse for Brown.  Having been forced to comment on the 100th death in Afghanistan on Monday night, he has spent the last day or so watching the bombings in Baghdad, Tiger Wood’s loose interpretation of marriage, angry bankers, the Iraq inquiry / humiliation and other random news items dominate the agenda – leaving Copenhagen little more than a footnote.  His dream of a G20-esque friendly media bonanza could not have got off to a worse start.

The question now is will it get any better, and can it get any worse?

  1. I wonder if it’s right that the BBC have bumped the Copenhagen story just because it’s not newsworthy. Might it not also be they choose to ignore, or, at least, minimise the ‘inconvenient truth’ that there is (and almost certainly, will be) all sorts of disarray on the climate thing (OK I know this particular episode may not be about the ’science’). Just like they only dealt with the UEA business when they had to.

Don’t want to rock the climate boat in any way, you see.

  2. Maybe even the BBC are waking up to the fact that over half of the population are highly sceptical about the Government’s scare-mongering over climate change. ‘Sexed-up’ emails distorting data; inconsistencies so that air traffic can continue to grow, whilst we must all try to cut our CO2 emissions and the ‘President’ of Europe, Rompuy, announcing that he wants Green taxes to directly fund the EU have a tendency to make us cynical.

As for the Government’s ridiculous climate change adverts – they’re just designed to frighten the kids. No sensible adult could possibly take them seriously.

  3. “Might it not also be they choose to ignore, or, at least, minimise the ‘inconvenient truth’..”

    Oh, there’s that, for sure.

  4. Seen on “Liberal Conspiracy” in a post entitled ” Exclusive: Miliband denies Copenhagen ‘leak’ reflects UK stance” In reply to a tweeted question from Sunny H. Miliband sent “@pickledpolitics shouldn’t judge UK position from one article. Danish text not a british one.” Interesting that Miliband should tacitly acknowledge the existence and veracity of the document.

This, of course is a long way from a denial of any UK involvement in the formulation of and acquiescence to the leaked document.
No doubt other regular contributors have noticed my partiality to a good, gossipy conspiracy theory. However, when the POTUS is a small-town Chicago Machine politico and the UK PM is a….what he is, desperate for credibility and in need of friends anywhere he can find them, such a stitch-up, totally screwing all those electors who put their faith in the players, is wholly believable.
Certainly, it put a wealth of new meanings on, “Yes We Can”.

  5. @Talwin – Dear Talwin. We know perfectly well that “impartiality” is no longer a core BEEB value. “All the News that the Bunker finds Helpful” has long taken it’s place.

  6. The BBC can only report ‘Climategate’ in warmist terms ie: what a scandal it is that these dedicated scientists have had their e-mails hacked. To turn this story around, imagine David Cameron had sent George Osbourne an e-mail saying ‘cut NHS spending in half after the election-but keep it to yourself’
Does anybody think the story would be ‘evil hackers’. No, it would be ‘evil old Etonians’ etc etc. Their hypocrisy knows no bounds

I’ve got a letter from my 6 year old right here.
Picture of a love heart and then a crocodile and a bear, probably a polar bear but its green.
“turn of youre CD player at bedtime and all the lights or the animils will all die. Dont kill our planet”

I’m all for this message. She leaves that HSM3 blaring all day.

  8. How ironic that the bleatings of those who stand to lose most in consequence of the leaked Climategate emails * are so similar in sound to the pseudo-outrage at the leaking of MPs’ dodgy expenses claims – don’t condemn the inherently scandalous nature of the leaked material, condemn its disclosure.

    * (another has fallen into my hands, or not as the case may be)

  9. It’s amazing how the third runway at Heathrow has mysteriously cleared the necessary environmental thresholds in the last few days….

  10. If anyone ever introduced these clowns’ left hands to their right hands, they’d be quite dangerous, you know…

  11. MMCC is a lie, a myth to scare children, enabling teachers to plan lots of lessons for our little darlings to do in class whilst other subjects are ignored. Those who peddle the lie of MMCC make a good living out of the lies and as long as governments continue to shore up the lies children will continue to be scared and teachers will have lots of stuff for lessons.
What is not taught in schools it seems is the basics of science, that FULL data is used to prove the fact, something the MMCC alarmists have failed to do. Instead, many simply spouted that, ‘The facts are indisputable and true.’
I beg to differ and still insist that the MMCC alarmists have taken part in the biggest lying hoax in history. They ARE the flat earthers, unlike we who dispute their facts and lies.
