Quote of the day
“I think it’s absolutely shocking that Alesha Dixon is not going to be a judge on Strictly Come Dancing. And as equality minister, I am suspicious that there is race discrimination there.”
- Harriet Harman, hitting out at the axing of performer Alesha Dixon from Strictly Come Dancing. Harman urged the BBC to bring the 30-year-old, whose father was Jamaican, back to the celebrity talent show. Dixon will be replaced on the judging panel by white British choreographer Arlene Phillips, who judged the competition in 2007 and 2008, when the show returns in the autumn.

Ta for h/t.
It’s a classic, I couldn’t resist borrowing it and crediting you!
I think Harman is guilty of racism – against Arlene Phillips, in case anybody is unsure.
She should be ashamed of herself.
Here we go again. It’s going to be law soon to have the obligatory ethnic on bloody everything! Harriet Harman is insane, the woman is not right in the head… I’m glad I don’t have a company in the UK. I would tell her to stick her discrimination laws where the sun don’t shine and only employ white people JUST to give myself some satisfaction!!!!
Unbelieveable. Arleen Phillips so obviously beats Alesha in terms of meritocracy for what they are meant to be judging. And as a female it is quite nice to see the older ones coming back which is not the case for many other TV shows where the older females but not males have been replaced with bright pretty young (usually talentless) young things (e.g. Countryfile). And where are all the more mature ladies reading the news!
Surely age representation should count under equality laws too! Or do we need to black up to get a job these days!
Aunt Harriet worked very hard to become Deputy Leader of the Labour Party. She obviously believes, from her own experiences, that talent and knowledge of the subject should not stand in the way of a sense of grievance and misplaced confidence in one’s own ability.
