Quote of the day
“It is the crack cocaine of the computer gaming world.”
- Sven Rollenhagen, author of a report on computer games from Sweden’s Youth Care Foundation, describing ‘World of Warcraft’, which has been called “the most dangerous game on the market” by addiction therapists after a 15-year-old Swedish boy collapsed and went into convulsions earlier this month after playing the game for 24 hours. (full story HERE)

More hyperbolic ignorance over a game that’s been available for 5 or so years. No science base, just Mail-esque moral panic, mocked so wonderfully in The Simpsons as ‘Won’t somebody think of the children?!’…
Agreed. Maybe someone should have a chat with these children’s parents about why they are allowed to spend so long on these games rather than blaming the game itself.
Or, re-write the headline:
“Child dies after parents ignore it for 24 hours. Video Game obviously to blame”
I don’t believe a video game alone killed a child it’s not physically possible, and if neglect would kill a child half the kids in America would be dead. The help needed here goes beyond insurance coverage. Seek help from our Heavenely Father and the rest of us will pray for you. In Jesus Name and the people said! Amen
“…“the most dangerous game on the market” by addiction therapists…”
Yes, it’s not like they’d have a vested interest in finding a new addiction now, is it…?
Oh Julia, ever the dutiful (and often correct) cynic!
It is a ridiculous story, but it made me laugh. Personal responsibility just doesn’t get a look in these days.
I don’t know which scares me more. Julia’s cynicism, or the frequency with which she is proved right…
