Quote of the day

“At the back of my mind was, ‘God, I hope nobody finds out about this’.”

- Tim Russo, 41, a convicted sex offender, who was paid more than £2,500 by the Labour Party to help their 2005 election campaign.  In 2002, Russo was convicted in America of trying to arrange sex with someone he thought was a 13-year-old boy.  His work included arranging visits for the Home Secretary and other senior figures, even though he somewhat suspiciously had come to the UK during an election campaign without a work permit or a work entry visa.

  1. Priceless…

Interestingly, when I commented about Mr Russo on Labour List, the comment did not make it through moderation.

    Keep up the good work.

  2. when I applied for a job at CCHQ (as a web developer, before you ask…) one of the questions on the form was ‘Are there any matters which you consider might cause embarrassment or difficulties for you and / or the CCHQ should these matters be disclosed at a later date?’

I think ‘three years ago I was convicted in America after trying to arrange sex with a 13-year-old boy’ would probably fit into that category, don’t you?

  3. It would for a job at CCHQ. A job with Labour, well… ;)

  4. Interesting post LFAT , I e-mailed you my own perspective on it , but I feel a bit light weight having read this .

  5. I’m sure most political parties have a standard vetting system to prevent unsavoury individuals from making it into the party.

Well, unless you have a general election to win and have to leave morality, ethics and decency to one side (but just for a few months).

  6. newmania! back from the brink. Look forward to more.
