Is the Iraq pullout a political or military decision?

“Now look, I know you might be a little tincy wincy bit upset with Labour and the whole Iraq war and weapons of mass destruction thing……”

  1. He really is clearing the decks for an election isn’t he?

Lets just hope that politics hasn’t overridden the requirements of the situation. It really would be disasterous if we pulled out early and the region descended back in to anarchy. All of those deaths, British, US and Iraqi, will have been in vain.

  2. The saddest thing is it might work.

However, I’m still optimistic that an election can only lead to a reduction of Brown’s majority. And therefore I’m pessimistic about him actually going through with it.

  3. Brown’s majority will undoubtedly go down and it could lead to a hung parliament, something which is now being discussed in earnest just about everywhere in the blogosphere.

  4. When it comes to it, we will need to mobilise on a scale, and with the same making it count spirit, that saw the end of Red Ken.
I will not forget that there was an almost Obama like atmosphere in the air when people who had never voted before, started leaving work early, went late to polling booths, crept out at lunchtimes etc to get rid of Ken.
It wasn’t even a let’s give him a good kicking thing. It was a let’s get rid of him forever.

Hopefully the same determination to be rid of the mad monk will apply and he will get the long walk.

Think of it. When it comes, we could vote on a Thursday and by Monday he will be back in Scotland, with only his worst Prime Minister ever legacy to keep him company.

  5. Regardless of share of the vote, once its percolated through the constituency & first-past-the-post system, a hung parliament is grossly unlikely. Unless Brown screws up big and we lynch them all between now an polling day, that is!

Just for those who haven’t been paying attention. Mandy is back. Campbell is ‘advising’. So under those circumstances, its hardly surprising that there’s a media narrative of ‘Brown’s having a good recession’ and ‘Labour more trusted on the economy’. However, as reality departs from the land of spin, as people lose their jobs and have a sh*t recession, that’s going to be both sickening and terribly hard to believe…
