Thought for the day

For supporters of Barack Obama, it has been the perfect week and they must have enjoyed every minute of it.  For those who didn’t want to see Obama become President, it has been a tough few days as his victory in the US election was confirmed - but some people are still refusing to accept that it’s all over…..

  1. Well, it does rather depend on what the bet was.

If they placed bets that he would elected as President, then yes, the bookie’s action is shameful. But if the bet was that Obama would be the next President, then the bookie is quite right; Obama is not President at the moment; right now, Bush* is still President.

*remember him, anyone? Short guy, from Texas….

It’s a fiddly one – I suspect that anyone voting on the Presidency expected a payout on November 5th rather than January!

  3. “I suspect that anyone voting on the Presidency expected a payout on November 5th rather than January!”

Oh, well. At least it’ll help them get used to disappointment. I’ve a feeling they’ll need it… ;)

Cheer up Julia, it could be worse – can’t you take heart from the fact that we don’t have four more years of Bush?

  5. Well, no matter who won, we were never going to have four more years of Bush! ;)

Not that I think he was the complete disaster everyone would have you believe anyway (though far too much a centrist on economy and internal affairs for my liking…).

  6. Maybe history will be kind to Bush. What will he actually be remembered for besides Iraq and failing to recognise climate change?

  7. I was supporting Obama and it has been a good week, but got people who are Conservative it must have been one **** week!

  8. “Maybe history will be kind to Bush. What will he actually be remembered for besides Iraq and failing to recognise climate change?”

Of which the latter may turn out to be uncharacteristically prescient…

That said, while I have disagreed with a vast number of things the Bush Administration has done, and vehemently disagreed with the methods chosen to accomplish them, I have to admit that I rather thought we’d all be dead by now due to his blunders. We’re not so I misjudged him and, y’know, it could’ve been worse*.

(*He still has 70 odd days left to make me feel both stupid and toasty if he starts a nuclear war with Russia or China or nukes Europe for not being supportive enough… there’s still time for him to live down to my predictions!)
