Reservoir Toffs
Quick recap on five predictions, now that conference is over:
1. The press will spend their entire time trying to make a big story out of something minor – Well they tried it in the Sunday papers before conference with a complete non-story about a Conservative PPC’s grumpy ex-girlfriend, but apart from that the press were fairly well behaved.
2. Cameron will pull off another excellent speech, but talk of the economy will still dominate the conference – got that right. Excellent speeches from all the big players, including an excellently judged and delivered finale from Cameron. Well done to all concerned, the right tone and the right message.
3. Labour will announce a reshuffle immediately after the Conservative Party conference finishes but will not attempt to steal the Conservative limelight during the conference after getting their fingers burned by Brown’s Iraq announcement last year – will watch the papers carefully for the reshuffle announcement but Labour certainly kept their trap shut this time.
4. The wine will be warm, I’ll drink too much every evening and I’ll never want to see another sausage roll ever again by the time I get back – spot on there.
5. The post-conference poll swing to the Conservatives will completely wipe out Labour’s gain after their conference – again, needs a couple of days but I’m still quietly confident.

“The post-conference poll swing to the Conservatives will completely wipe out Labour’s gain after their conference “
The financial crisis is helping Labour by keeping both the Conservatives and stories of Labour’s incompetence out of the news. I don’t think the lead will get back to pre-conference season levels until after the Glentrothes by-election at the earliest.
Oh, I think the selection of Mandelson will bring Labour’s incompetence firmly back into the news..
They have finally learnt that just by keeping Gordon’s scowly face of the TV their poll ratings rise.
Ross, disagree with you. I think Cameron made his case to the country on Wednesday and the message is getting through that Gordon dug this hole for the country, not the financial markets.
