Quote of the day

“One of the problems with younger people is that their lives are less settled”

- Russell Eagling, Liberal Democrat council leader in Kentish Town ward in Camden, responding to the news that one of his councillors had moved 5,200 miles away to Arizona but was still claiming his £700 a month council allowance

  1. He is studing in Arizona for a year; term time takes up six months, so as long as doesn’t claim travel from Arizona – what’s the problem. Would you complain about a councillor doing a tour with the TA or naval reserve.

You think that having been elected as a representative of the people, it is acceptable for him not to act as a representative for six months a year?

Claiming his council allowance while abroad was disgraceful and I haven’t heard anything about him paying the money back either.
