Quote of the day

“Thirty years after Margaret Thatcher rescued Britain from the unions, Europe and the Labour Party may be about to hand them back their placards and cast us headlong back into another era of discontent”

- Lord Tebbit, who fears the EU may scupper the industrial relations laws, curbing trade union power, which he introduced in the 1980s

  1. It’s interesting how people use “fears” and “suspects” and similar words. For example, the dear old Beeb kept reporting for quite a long time of “fears” Mugabe would unleash violence, even when he had his thugs killing people. They reported “suspicions” the polls were rigged, when they had seen both photos of the results pinned up at the stations, and the quite different numbers from the “official” counts.
There are no “fears” the EU will scupper our trades union laws. That is an explicit intent of the main EU players, France and German, aimed at “harmonising competitiveness” – downwards. You cannot assume the EU to be an accidentally incompetent body that makes occasional mistakes while generally trying to do good; it intends to create a supra national ruling body, and to do that nation states’ laws MUST be nullified.
