Is McCain really up to being President?
Well, not if THIS STORY is anything to go by.
“Thank you, thank you very much, a great victory in Wisconsin, thanks” (dammit, can someone just pass me my zimmer frame…)

it took them 10 years to say he smiled at a lobbyist who was good looking? yawn.
It sounds like the New York Times sat on this story for quite a while, so who knows what their agenda is.
Good on the old geezer!
Lets face it, almost all politicians have an affair, fling or daliance with someone who is not married to them. This should be no surprise or shock. The reason people go into politics is a desire for power and that extends to power over many different people in a variety of ways.
I’m sure even Lincoln hung his ridiculously large hat on several mistress’ bed posts!
That mental image of Lincoln will haunt me for the rest of my life.
Damn you.
I too am intrigued by the reason for the NY Times sitting on the story for so long. To give McCain time enough to all but seal the nomination? Does the per take sides in political matters?
According to the foundation of all knowledge that is Wikipedia, most people think the NYT has a liberal (Democrat) bias, so maybe they were just living up to their reputation with this story being released as McCain edges closer to the Republican nomination.
Well in that case, apologies for not looking on wiki myself, it seems that goes against my original theory. This begs the question, why not wait until he is head to head with the Democrat nominee to allow more political capital to be made?
I don’t care too much about the lobbyist story.
But the reason he’s in that pose in the photo, which you have so wittily captioned with the ‘zimmer frame’ reference is because he can’t raise his arms above his shoulders without great pain. This is because of the torture McCain suffered during five and a half years as a prisoner in North Vietnam.
I assume you knew that, because it’s very well documented. Still, good for a laugh, eh?
Oh dear me, you take things too seriously, Arfa.
Of course, “its good for a laugh”. Most comedians use people’s unfortunate traits and make jokes out of it. That is the simple fact of comedy. It isn’t meant to hurt people or harm them and if you can laugh at yourself as well as other people.
Therefore, the picture is funny because he’s very old – like all the jokes about Menzies, please don’t get all offended because of a caption! It’s people like you that would make the world a very very dull place!
