I am very much a supporter of ‘localism’ and devolving power as close as possible to those who it affects. The Labour government have made the dangers of centralising power perfectly clear on many occasions. However, sometimes the idea of local councils having more power does make me a little nervous, as their use of public funds is not always very comforting.

Perhaps more use than the batteries of anti-smoking coordinators, cycling paths experts, and such like…
Hard to disagree with that. It is difficult to match the jaw-droppingly ridiculous job titles you find in local councils these days.
The difference with a Council is that you actually have something approaching a realistic chance of
a) speaking to, or
b) becoming
a councillor and hence you’ve got much more chance of influencing decisions.
As for this particular case, don’t knock it, it seems to have worked…
