Brown’s cynicism continues

Dear Gordon Brown,

I thought you’d learned your lesson.  My mistake.  Having claimed to mark the beginning of a new era of spin-free politics, and then be caught spinning so spectacularly, I assumed that you wouldn’t be stupid enough to try it again.

Using people’s lives as a means of scoring political points is fairly disgusting behaviour for a Prime Minister, who one would hope might adhere to some kind of moral or ethical standards.  You proudly announced that Iraqi interpreters would be given resettlement expenses to keep them and their families safe from those who have sought revenge on them for helping our armed forces.  Sounds great, but the spin cleverly hides the reality.  Firstly, why the hell has is taken so long to realise that these interpreters and their families are in danger?  The news reports of threats and attacks on them having been pouring in for weeks and months, and now you finally decide that actually it might be a good idea to help them out a bit.  Yet again, you are trying to use people’s lives to score political points as your reputation nosedives in the polls.  Secondly, why do they have to wait until they’ve completed 12 months of service before they qualify for financial assistance?  How many death threats do you think they might receive in 12 months? 10? 20? 30? 100?  What a bloody cheek.  These people could be dead in 12 months.

I cannot believe that you are still trying to hide from your failures.  A bit of honesty goes a long way in politics – maybe you should try it some time?

Yours in contempt,

A.Tory
