Colin (Dad),

If it was still the EEC life wouldnt be such a problem. However the UK didnt join the Schenken area (ie we opted to maintain border controls) so it is the implementation or not of proper border controls by the government that is the problem.

PS Who cares about the cold? Just to be clear the Canadian immigration regulations also apply to US citizens wishing to live here :~D
Reply to this comment - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('5701','David Whelbourn','Colin (Dad),\r\n\r\nIf it was still the EEC life wouldnt be such a problem.
David
If Canada was tied into the EEC as the UK is, it would have the same problems, outside it is different Visas, Ancestry Ayslum seekers are treated differently at the moment a Canadian wife of a British serving soldier is facing deportation, and
if Canada wasn"t so Bloody cold you would have problems keeping all those poor Yanks pouring over your Borders.
Reply to this comment - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('1213','COLIN WHELBOURN','David\n If Canada was tied into the EEC as the UK is, it would have the same problems, outside it is different Visas, Ancestry Ayslum seekers are treated differently at the moment a Canadian wife of a British serving soldier is facing deportation, and\nif Canada wasn\"t so Bloody cold you would have problems keeping all those poor Yanks pouring over your Borders.'); return false;">Quote this comment

Very interesting to hear that, David.

The fact of the matter is that we have NO IDEA who these people are coming into our country. They could be hard working skilled individuals, or they could be murderers - we don't ask, we don't check, we just let them into the country. How anyone can judge that as a rational economic or political situation is truly baffling.
Reply to this comment - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('1212','Letters From A Tory','Very interesting to hear that, David.\n\nThe fact of the matter is that we have NO IDEA who these people are coming into our country.
Well speaking as one of the rats that deserted the sinking ship I know exactly how Canada handles immigration. We emigrated to Canada Nov 2005 after waiting 2 years and only when we (all the family) had:
* Passed a thorough medical,
* produced satisfactory police checks from everywhere where we had lived for more than six months since the age of 18, * produced a letter of reference from every employer for the last 10 years
* and have all of my education and training notarised.
* Provide evidence of fluency in either English or French

When we arrived we needed to prove we had sufficient funds for 6 months for a family of four. We couldnt claim any benefits or healhcare services for 6 months you had to buy medical insurance coverage.

Our kids could go to school, provided they took in their permanent resident ID cards and vaccination certificates when initially registering!

Now thats what I call a sensible approach to controlling and selecting the people who will contribute to the society.
Reply to this comment - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('1211','David Whelbourn','Well speaking as one of the rats that deserted the sinking ship I know exactly how Canada handles immigration.
Well Mr A Tory, the reason why there are so many immigrants in Britain and have been for many many years is because the business community wants cheap Labour. Wages for ordinary workers today are so low that they pay little more than benefits thanks to the smashing of the Unions by your party when they were in government. Furthermore large scale immigration began in 1948 with the arrival of the Windrush, and what propmpted this exodus? could it be that perhaps these patriotic people who looked upon Britain as the `Mother Country'(many served in the armed forces in WW2)were inspired by one Winston S Churchill who addressed cheering crowds in Jamaica in 1946 and told them "go to Britain and help rebuild the `Mother Country'" ha ha ha or one Enoch Powell who when Minister for Health in Macmillan's government recruited West Indian nurses to work in the NHS...stop worrying and smoke a spliff and have a game of dominoes man!
Reply to this comment - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('1210','N Dominguez','Well Mr A Tory, the reason why there are so many immigrants in Britain and have been for many many years is because the business community wants cheap Labour.
